This ladybird has been "caught in the act".......(honestly, anyone would think the house was on fire!), scurrying across the page, complete with their definition from my 1907 dictionary. I am a children's book/greetings card/live sketch Illustrator by day......but by night, I seek out, "on their last legs" dictionaries to illustrate on, rescuing them from skips, charity shops and landfill. I work very much with sustainability in mind and just love to give these beautiful old books (and accompanying words!) a new lease of life beginning a new story. I hope this piece makes you smile.

Flesh and bone are transient, held together for a fleeting moment by a delicate balance of forces. This painting explores that physical and spiritual tension. The figure is suspended by myriad invisible pulls, representing absolute aliveness and presence in the 'now'. Part of a current series on somatic experience, the piece reflects how we actually feel our inner body: not as strict outlines, but with blurred, shifting edges. The harmonised colours represent the material vessel, whilst the sharp geometric lines reveal the 'Hidden Geometry' beneath. It is a reminder that universal tensegrity maintains both our fragile bodies and the cosmos itself—a perfect duality of the material and immaterial.

Hand-crafted using a sophisticated layering of carved wood, papier-mâché, and intricate paper collage, the work is finished with acrylics to highlight the bird’s iconic plumage and spirited character. Integrated into the bird’s form and the surrounding winter landscape are the poetic observations of John Clare. By embedding Clare’s verse directly into the collage, the piece serves as a physical bridge between the natural world and our literary heritage. It reflects the Robin’s role as a resilient steward of the garden and woodland, even in the harshest months. Tuscan Sunset is a large, highly textural work built up from mulberry bark and recycled fabrics worked into a weatherproof hardening material and them painted up with outdoor paints. The base of the work is marine plywood, the frame is made from recycled plastics and all materials have been tested for several years outside to ensure durability. I have pushed the limitations of the materials to create a work that conveys the geology of the stunning Tuscan landscape and atmospheric heat and light that plays over it as the sun sets.

Noble Mariner, an interior or exterior ceramic stoneware portrait, sculpted from life, celebrates the quiet strength, humility, and resilience of this veteran seafarer. Created in terracotta clay, the work deliberately echoes the presence of a grand bronze monument while honouring the mariner’s modest origins and life at sea. Rich earthy tones, oxides, and textured surfaces pay homage to the elemental forces of the ocean and the wisdom ingrained through experience and respect for nature’s power and the enduring human spirit. Displayed on a weathered steel plinth, the sculpture contrasts fragility with steadfastness, symbolising both the mariner and the ships he sailed. Noble Mariner pays tribute to those who face the sea’s relentless forces with dignity, resilience, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Capturing the light and depth of landscape reflections is at the core of my artistic practice. I alway go back to the hidden, ofter overlooked pockets of nature where light meets water and the mysterious depths of the lakes and waterways reveal the trees and riverbank. I use oil painting as well as process techniques to try to capture the sunlight as it dapples and dances over the water surface and the tree reflections in the depths of the water. I am always searching for a way to instil paintings with my emotional response to these areas of quiet, atmospheric beauty.

I often find myself drawn to this moment—where the sea meets the land, where everything feels both grounded and in motion. This piece comes from that feeling. The turquoise water opens out like a space to breathe, while the sand holds something warmer, more familiar, almost like a memory of place. The white foam moves between them, arriving and disappearing, like a quiet conversation that never fully settles. Having lived between countries, I recognise this shoreline as more than a place—it feels like a state of being. Always arriving, always leaving, never entirely one or the other. The marks and textures carry traces of that movement, like something just passed through. For me, this is where I pause. Somewhere gentle, shifting, and uncertain—yet deeply calm. A place that doesn’t ask me to choose, but simply to exist in between.

Equs embodies unbridled strength and quiet grace, holding the tension between stillness and imminent movement. Fluid textures, layered patinas, and bold sculptural form evoke power and vulnerability. The work honours the enduring connection between horse and human. Rooted in my own enduring love affair with the horse, this work reflects a lifelong fascination with the equine form, its symbolic and empathic presence throughout history and art. Across cultures, this relationship has shaped identity, labour, ritual, and imagination. Equs becomes both a personal tribute and a wider reflection on coexistence, shared histories, respect and the timeless dialogue between humanity and horse. An unspoken dialogue of intimacy. Honesty. A portrait of pottery throwdown judge and master potter Keith Brymer Jones. I painted Keith following a day spent with him in his Whitstable studio where I took a series of photos and made sketches. I am fascinated by people at work, especially fellow creatives and it was great to capture Keiths likeness as he made a large batch of mugs, us talking about many aspects of working as an artist all while radio 4 played in the background.

The painting depicts a 17th-century lady riding aside, wearing a riding habit influenced by a French design of the period. The name of the painting is inspired by a 1666 diary entry of Samuel Pepys, where he writes: 'Walking here in the galleries I find the Ladies of Honour dressed in their riding garbs, with coats and doublets with deep skirts, just for all the world like mine, and buttoned their doublets up the breast, with perriwigs and with hats; so that, only for a long petticoat dragging under their men’s coats, nobody could take them for women in any point whatever...'

On Canvas, acrylics and collection of papers are created to bring about a joyous feeling of celebrating summer. I enjoy being by the sea, swimming and sometimes on the water but always it great to be out afterwards and enjoy drinking and relaxing. In this painting I wanted the observer to feel the warmth as they too sat relaxed, enjoying a lazy day.

The painting can be described as a synthesis of the internal and external, colour relationships seen and imagined. The ideas are visual and the work communicates like music in a non-verbal way reflecting and evoking, not copying, nature. There is a symbiotic relationship between differing or opposing elements such as accident and order, translucence and opaqueness, stillness and energy. At the start the outcome is not known. The process is a dialogue between myself and the work.

Sunshower or more interestingly – Kitsune. Where rain falls while the sun is shining – in this case, a sunset, but I loved this Japanese folk belief that Kitsune is a supernatural event where foxes, magical beings known for shape-shifting, hold secret wedding ceremonies during a sunshower to prevent us from witnessing their celebrations.
