My paintings evolve intuitively through layers of paint, texture, and mark-making, creating uplifting pieces designed to be lived with and enjoyed every day.  I love repurposing old books and paper ephemera, weaving traces of the past into the present. I often scratch back through these layers to reveal hidden fragments — echoes of history, memory, and chance discovery.Incorporating collage into my work creates unexpected opportunities to connect disparate marks, textures, and shapes, forming a harmonious yet intriguing visual dialogue.

I am a mixed-media artist working from my purpose-built home studio in the beautiful historic town of Uppingham. I love exploring shape, colour, and texture through mainly abstract and semi-abstract work.

I have a background in printed textiles and worked freelance for companies and design studios worldwide. My hand-drawn, technique-led designs were exhibited in London, New York, Los Angeles, Europe, and Japan, and created artwork for fashion, home furnishings, gift wrap, cards, and stationery.

Alongside my art and design practice, I have worked as a part-time lecturer on the B.A. (Hons) Textiles course at De Montfort University for over 20 years, as well as teaching at other universities from time to time. This design background continues to influence my playful approach to pattern, composition, and abstraction.

Today, I paint mainly with acrylics, combining them with a variety of mark-making media. I often incorporate painted and monoprinted collage papers, building up layers before scratching back into the surface to reveal hidden fragments beneath. I am particularly drawn to repurposing old books and found paper ephemera; although much becomes concealed within the painting, small traces often remain visible, suggesting a sense of history, memory, and discovery.

My process is intuitive and exploratory. The relationships between marks, surfaces, shapes, and textures emerge naturally through layering and experimentation. Sometimes recognisable forms — such as leaves, botanical motifs, vessels, or vases — appear within the compositions, offering subtle points of reference and atmosphere for the viewer.

My work is constantly evolving, and it is this ongoing process of change, discovery, and play that continues to inspire and excite me. I feel I have discovered ways of working that feel instinctive, personal and truly my own.
