h: 40 w: 40 d: 5 (cms).

This relief sculpture depicts the elegant silhouette of an Avocet, a symbol of successful conservation and environmental resilience. Hand-crafted using a meticulous layering of carved wood, papier-mâché, and intricate paper collage, the piece utilizes a cool palette of blues and whites to evoke the bird’s peaceful wetland and marshland habitat. Woven into the composition are the poetic verses of John Clare. By physically embedding Clare's words into the textures of the bird and the water, the work highlights the deep historical and cultural connection between British literature and our native bird species. It celebrates the Avocet as a graceful steward of the watery fens and inland flashes. The relief construction provides a tactile, three-dimensional quality, with the bird's distinctive upward-curved bill leading the viewer's eye through the narrative of the collage. This piece explores themes of nature stewardship and the preservation of the delicate balance within our UK ecosystem
