The world emerging-submerging, not quiescent. A large number of transient white flowers rising and drifting against a hazy blue background, coming out of the originary confusion and sinking back into it, following the great respiratory alternation, breathing in and breathing out, that brings the world into existence. ‘The there-is and the there-is-not engender each other’. Lao Tzu “I made a large number of drawings with a fine nibbed permanent marker on dress-pattern tissue paper of small white Alpine flowers in the Botanical Garden in Cambridge. I then collaged the drawings onto canvas, adding acrylic and watercolour as the image emerged. Aspects of the printed dress-pattern tissue paper - fragments of words, lines, numbers - were subtly incorporated into the painting”
