A painting built up in oil on canvas through layers of mark, colour and play. Working from a still life set up in my studio, flowers and a hidden deer arranged and observed, then painted intuitively, each layer a small discovery. The deer is present but asks you to look, half-emerged from the flowers and the marks of the world around it. The work sits somewhere between figurative and abstract, loose enough to breathe but figurative enough to see. There is always room to find your own feeling in it.
